About Postback Notes
Postback Notes is an independent English-language publication of programming tutorials. It is written for developers who look after ASP.NET Web Forms applications, students meeting C# and SQL Server for the first time, and anyone who lands on an old forum answer and needs a version that still works today.
The name
A postback is the moment a Web Forms page sends itself back to the server: the mechanism behind every button click, every SelectedIndexChanged and most of the questions developers ask about the platform. The name is a reminder of the audience this site serves.
What we cover
- ASP.NET Web Forms: controls, postbacks, configuration, deployment and the errors that come with them.
- C# and ADO.NET: data access with SQL Server, files, XML and e-mail.
- OOP and concepts: object-oriented design in C#, framework comparisons, interview preparation and security basics.
- jQuery and JavaScript: working with server controls in the browser.
- HTML and CSS: transitions, tooltips and markup questions.
How the tutorials are written
- Complete examples. Code samples include the markup, the code-behind and the configuration they depend on, so they can be pasted into a project and run. Unless stated otherwise they target .NET Framework 4.8 with C#.
- Safe by default. SQL uses parameters, output is HTML-encoded, uploads are restricted. When an example simplifies something for clarity, the text says so.
- Official references. Each tutorial ends with links to the documentation it relies on: Microsoft Learn, MDN Web Docs, the jQuery API documentation, W3C and IETF specifications, or OWASP guidance for security topics.
- Dated and maintained. Pages show when they were published and updated. Where Web Forms and ASP.NET Core differ, we say which one applies.
- No sponsorship. We do not accept payment for mentions of hosting companies, libraries or tools.
Pages are written and reviewed collectively by the editors of Postback Notes; articles carry no personal byline.
About this domain
This domain previously hosted a different project, a programming tutorial blog with which Postback Notes has no connection. Postback Notes is a new and independent publication: it is not the continuation of that project, does not use its name or material, and is not affiliated with its authors. Because many developers still follow links to the tutorials the domain used to host, we have written new, original tutorials on the same subjects at the same addresses, checked against current documentation.
